Achor Railroad Engine No. 904 with builder and engineer L. "Bruce" Achor at the throttle and DRRY Engine No. 326 with builder and engineer E. "Bud" Buker at the throttle double heading a consist of DRRY passenger and freight cars. Photographed by Rennie Neider on the Elliott Donnelley estate railroad, west Lake Forest, Illinois, U.S.A. Both engineers appear to be looking down at the ground and at a reference point on their engine in order to ascertain the instant when the forward motion of their engine begins while carefully opening the throttle, thus avoiding any abrupt motion being imparted to the train and discomfort to passengers that have just boarded and have not yet reached their seats. A skill learned only after many scale miles have past with ones left hand on the throttle. |
